Certus partners with Thunderhead on document process automation

AUCKLAND, December 2007: IBM consulting and implementation specialists Certus Solutions is partnering with one of the world’s leading document process automation software providers to improve the quality of corporate communications produced by New Zealand organisations.

Certus New Zealand Managing Director, Greg Woolley says his company has joined forces with Thunderhead, a software firm that specialises in enterprise communications software in order to help companies improve the accuracy, consistency and timeliness of their communications with key stakeholders.

“Certus is recognised as a market leading provider of enterprise content management (ECM) solutions and we are increasingly being asked by customers to help them control the high volumes of data and documents they produce. “New legal requirements, such as the introduction of the Unsolicited Electronic Messages Bill (anti-spam law), together with changing demands from clients as to the format and the way they want information delivered, is forcing organisations to look closely at how they can improve the production and publication of business information,” Woolley says.

As more organisations begin to implement corporate responsibility programmes, the environmental impact of traditional paper-based correspondence is also being re-examined, he says.

“Customers are becoming more sophisticated about their environmental foot print and are moving to electronic delivery of bills and information,”says Woolley. “But this raises new problems about meeting legal requirements and concerns about whether an enterprise has the necessary infrastructure to effectively leverage information and automate its communication processes.”

Woolley says most businesses have to manage lengthy creation procedures for hundreds and thousands of document templates in an attempt to reach customers. The problems of poorly cleansed data, slow yet expensive document creation and management processes are driving the need for change.

“Thunderhead addresses these problems by providing a document generation, assembly and channel management system that gives business owners full editorial control.”

Built around the concept of content templates, the Thunderhead suite dynamically assembles content from a range of sources and allows considerable functionality to be associated with each template.

Woolley says the Thunderhead software provides a valuable addition to Certus’ existing ECM toolkit and will work powerfully in conjunction with IBM’s FileNet application.

“When combined with FileNet, Thunderhead can provide a greater return on intellectual assets. By improving the management of and consolidating company content, templates and business rules, organisations can manage multi-channel communications more quickly and simply. And they can delegate responsibility to appropriate business units, reducing the need for IT to intervene in the business process.
